As capacity is limited we invite you to rsvp by 25 July 2025 by emailing shimmerrotterdam@gmail.com
*Following the event we will host a lunch, if you would like to join us please let us know.
Plaited through Shimmer’s exhibitions in 2024 are events curated by artist Meghan Clarke as part of our Sunday Morning with… event program.
BRONWEN JONES and DA(R)SHA GOLOVA will make a performative enactment inspired by their roles in Textile Initiative of constantly searching for, reviving and reimagining craft. They will bring their own handmade tools and materials to Shimmer and assemble sculptural pieces out of scaled up elements of their daily practices, bringing together textile handwork and tailoring construction techniques to reimagine a new craft language.
BRONWEN JONES (1995, UK) is an artist and textile repairer. Her main artistic focus is visibly mending clothing for/with the public as a community-based practice which initiates conversations on care, intimacy, value, and ownership. Her work materialises in these interactions, as well as sculptures, publications, and workshops. Her practice is supported by the Mondriaan Fund (2023, 2024) and most recently she has exhibited at Prospects (Art Rotterdam) and CODA Apeldoorn.
DA(R)SHA GOLOVA (1990, Belarus) is an artist and tailor creating mixed media installations, tailoring costumes and organising textile related workshops in and around Amsterdam. Her first solo show Choreography of detention; I hear the melody from the swamp was presented at Hotel Maria Kapel in Hoorn in 2022. Golova addresses political issues in her home country with her ongoing activist project Postcards of Solidarity, which has been presented in multiple art venues in Den Haag and Amsterdam between 2021-2022. Golova further developed her practice in costume design collaborating with research duo Liminal Vision on several cinematic world-building projects, such as Scent of Time.
Together they are working on Textile Initiative, an event series beginning from the theme of textile, using it to bring together community to experiment and share knowledge, stories, skills, and time. They embrace textile as a metaphor for weaving, breaking, and repairing social fabric.
SUNDAY MORNINGS WITH... is an event-based project that aims to tease out hidden connections, quiet conversations, and influences ordinarily kept private. Far from articulating artworks through just the verbal, the program aims to create an environment where bodies, materials, ideas, and conversations come together, as a place to seed new ideas for both artistic practices and the community that surround Shimmer.
