For the forthcoming period, starting with Waterfall #2: Look at the View by Liu Chao-tze, we’re shifting Shimmer’s approach to curating singular artworks.
Installed by the window Waterfall #2: Look at the View by Liu Chao-tze reflects the port and "soothes" the industrial zone with the sound of falling water and birds twittering away. What are we looking at when we are encouraged to ‘look at the view’? Far from the sublime, but still moving, we look at the view itself instead of something in particular. Look at the View is the second piece in Liu’s ongoing Waterfall series(2016-) collected from Gumtree UK (an online selling website). Waterfall #2: Look at the View was first presented as part of the mixed media installation piece The Place Where the Muses Dwell (2017).
Liu Chao-tze (b.1991, Taipei) is a visual artist who mainly works with images, installation and publication. She completed Master of Fine Art degree at Goldsmiths College, University of London in 2017. She takes pictures, not only in a sense of drawings -or photographs- but also something that one produces in one’s mind by using imagination and ideas. Her work explores fantasy, memory, identities through the concept of “exotic”. In May 2018, she co-founded Fotobook DUMMIES Day, a publication project mainly focusing on photographic publications in a manner of self-publishing, and to establish a platform for the makers and the readers wherever their conversations become possible. She currently lives and works in Rotterdam. www.liuchaotze.com
