Iridescence & The Rising Wave
An ever-expanding online exhibition of past, current and future exhibiting artists at Shimmer
Iridescence and the Rising Wave includes all artists from our exhibitions to become an ever-expanding downloadable exhibition that gives an intimate behind the scenes peek into an artist practice and to an exhibition. Iridescence and the Rising Wave is between the online and the hand-made, a project that sits in-between (or outside) the 'online/offline' binaries.
We have been documenting Shimmer on black & white medium format film of the behind the scene process of Shimmer: the unwrapping, the installing and the decision making with the artist onsite, online, or in mind. Alongside this, we have invited Rotterdam based architect Dirk Osinga to draw the artworks from the digital documentation into vector drawings. Adding to the expanding exhibition, each artist sends a fragment of their studio, a scan (pressed flowers, dried orange peel) or lyrics to a song, text, recipe, affirmation, shopping list and so on.
In our first iteration of the exhibition downloadable exhibition, we include works by Zarouhie Abdalian, Gwenneth Boelens, Dean Bowen, Liu Chao-tze, Joseph Grigely, Gordon Hall, Ian Kiaer, Elena Narbutaite, Kate Newby, Shanta Rao, Katie West, Marcel Duchamp, Theo van Doesburg, Reinier Vrancken and Ma Qiusha. As the project progresses photos, drawings, and from past exhibitions such as Ever-, Post-Solar, Our Time Together is Uncertain, LW/LW, and our future exhibition World as Lover, World as Self will be added.
Iridescence & The Rising Wave is supported by CBK Rotterdam & Creative Industries NL.
